1-Component (1K) cementitious waterproofing refers to a ready-to-use cementitious waterproofing material that only requires the addition of water for mixing. It refers to a product that has only one dry component and no separate liquid polymer and/or additive to blend with the material to form the cementitious waterproofing material. After mixing with water and application on the surface of the concrete/structure, the material provides a rigid, water-resistant coating to the structure's surface.

System of 1K Cementitious Waterproofing Painting

After application, the Cementous substance chemically binds to the surface of the concrete, creating an impermeable layer that prevents water penetration. It fills the pores and capillaries on the surface of the concrete, preventing water from seeping through. Being a rigid substance, its performance on concrete is ideal where there is limited movement.

Features of 1K Cementitious Waterproofing

1K cementitious coatings are renowned for their simplicity and ease of application. The fact that handling, mixing, and application can be accomplished with water alone significantly enhances convenience and reduces errors in mixing. The system offers excellent adhesion to concrete, bricks, and plastered surfaces, effectively protecting them from moisture and water pressure in wet internal spaces.

Applications of 1K Cementitious Waterproofing

This waterproofing system is also being largely utilized in water tanks, sums, and reservoirs because most of the 1K cementitious materials are non-poisonous and can be used to store drinking water. On application to the inside surfaces of such containers, it prevents seepage of water and protects it from degradation as a consequence of constant pressure from water.
In basements, foundation work, and retaining walls, the 1K cementitious waterproofing material is applied on both the positive and negative surfaces of the structures. In fact, it is best used in regions with low movements and where the concrete surfaces remain stable. In this case, the waterproofing material prevents capillary action, through which water from the ground enters the building.
1K cementitious waterproofing material is also applied in the wet regions inside buildings, such as the utility room or the wash room, and the kitchen. The material is useful in creating a barrier that prevents the penetration of water. Further, the product is applied in the lifts or the service shaft, where the presence of moisture affects the reinforcement.
In general, the 1K cementitious waterproofing system will work best for stable concrete and masonry structures that need an effective and affordable waterproofing solution. In the hands of experienced professionals and with the right application and curing methods, the system will provide effective and lasting water seepage and dampness protection.

Advantages and Disadvantages of 1K Cementitious Waterproofing

Advantages
Disadvantages
Easy to use – only water needs to be added
Limited flexibility compared to 2-component systems
Ready-mix formulation reduces site errors
Not suitable for areas with structural movement
Good adhesion to concrete and masonry surfaces
May crack if substrate has existing or future cracks
Cost-effective waterproofing solution
Lower crack-bridging capability
Suitable for positive side waterproofing
Not ideal for negative side water pressure
Simple application using brush or roller
Requires proper surface preparation for effectiveness
Environment-friendly and non-toxic
Slower curing time in cold or humid conditions
Can be applied on damp surfaces
Limited resistance to aggressive chemicals
Good breathability allowing vapor transmission
Not suitable for exposed UV conditions without protection
